First Strype Edition, best and most desirable edition of Stow's magisterial study—the "starting point of all inquiry into the subject of Elizabethan London." Complete in two folio volumes; each of the six 'books,' introduced by a drop-head title, with its own pagination: [4], xii, xlii, [2], 308, 208, 285, [1]; [2], 120, 459, [1], 93, [3], 143, [1], 26, [2]pp, with 70 plates, plans and maps (31 double-page or folding), including those of London, Westminster and Southwark. San Juan Capistrano, California:: Dirk Hagner,, [n.d.].. Edition of 30. 11.25 x 7.25" closed, extends to 11.75 x 30". Accordion structure with four folds. Letterpress printed on 100% cotton paper. Black paper-covered boards with silver titling and multicolored thread tie closure. Housed in black lidded box with title in white and hand written edition number on lid. Signed and numbered by the artist. Dirk Hagner: "The album uses a quote from Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska employing texting as a means to allow use of larger type in the letterpress process than would be normally possible. 'All is mine and nothing owned for memory, and mine only while I look.' Much like a jpeg photograph the words compress when texted to fewer letters; however, when read, it 'resurrects' to the full wording. It allowed the effective use of some pied wood type.

One of a limited edition of 160 copies. Name stamp of Sydney H. Caslon Smith on half title and top margin of title page. Top and bottom of spine a little worn/rubbed (no loss) o/w very good. contents fine.

Italia: n.p., 1835. Very Good. 19 cm; 20 pages (three blank), including 7 full-page illustrations with captions. Text and illustrations lithographed throughout. Bound in (later?) plain wraps. Not in Melzi. No copies located. Apparently unrecorded booklet with text and illustrations produced completely in lithograph. The text reproduces an italic calligraphy that must have been lettered in reverse on stone, or written out on transfer paper before being applied to the lithographic stone. The narrative concerns a lady who is handily juggling simultaneous affairs with a young man and with the young man's father.

A fine copy.

Illustrated with in-text woodcuts, made by Bartolommeo di Giovanni for a lost quattrocento edition, which were used to illustrate various later texts and have now been reassembled and recut. One full-page facsimile from the English version printed in 1597. Slightest toning and shelf wear to binding and slipcase. About fine. .

Also laid in a broadside poem, 6" x 12 1/4", on handmade paper that reads -" old image squared up snoose, they call it skookum nailing up the boards that fit tight in winter mamook delate" with abstract brush stroke image and "xerox" at bottom, the broadside creased at ends and browning at top end. "Pulcinoelefante" is an Italian publishing house founded by Alberto Casiraghi (or Casiraghy).
The books are hand printed using movable types on the high-quality Hahnemühle paper produced in Germany. Annually "Pulcinoelefante" publishes hundreds of small plaquettes formed by a text (aphorism or short poem), accompanied by small engravings or original drawings made by artists. Each edition is published in a very small number of copies hors de commerce.
