Illustrated frontis of medieval poet Charles, Duke of Orleans [1394-1465], who, taken prisoner after the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. Georg Fabricius was an important 16th-century Protestant German author who is responsible for some of the best editions of Greek and Roman classics such as Terence, Virgil, and Horace. And while his commentary on classical literature is without a doubt his best work, he is also known for a study on the history of Christian religion. He published a number of sacred poems as well in which he sought to completely avoid all traces of paganism.

This 1571 printing of 'Virorum Illustrium' includes many of his sacred poems, but is desirable for his biographical sketches of notable church fathers, historians, and Roman rulers including:

Nice copy of this mid-seventies issue of the classic San Francisco underground Beat magazine, includes a great range of luminaries (including one poem by Dale Pendell). Unmarked copy with light staple rust and some light wear and faint sunning.

Paradise Lost was originally published in the year 1667. Early editions such as the one being offered here are very scarce and valuable. This fifteenth edition from 1738 is completely original inside and out. The leather covers show some scuffing, and the gold decor on both front and back covers is still good. There is a former owner's name on the front endsheet, and a few pages have some edge spots. The binding is tight, and the book is mostly as it was when it was published almost three centuries ago.This will make a fine and unique addition to your library of classic literature.

Robert Morris was an important American Freemason poet who is chiefly remembered for creating the Order of the Eastern Star. He composed over 400 poems most of which dealt with the Eastern Star and Freemasonry. He voyaged to the Holy Land and wrote hymns and poems based on his experiences there. He also published a book describing his sights and discoveries in Syria, Palestine, and Egypt entitled 'Freemasonry in the Holy Land' which featured many of his poems and odes.

1699 1ed Idylls of Theocritus Ancient Greek Poetry Latin & Greek Scaliger Oxford

Theocritus was a 3rd-century BC Greek poet best known for writing pastoral poems. In fact, his Idylls are considered to be the first pastoral poems. They are still widely read today, much in part to fine 17th-century examples such as this 1699 Oxford printing. This particular edition is considerably noteworthy – it features both Latin and original Greek texts with translations and annotated notes by Joseph Scaliger, Isaac Casaubon, and Daniel Heinsius.
