1565 Charles IX Great Ordinance of 1561 France French LAW & Government Chalard

In 1561, when Charles IX ascended the French throne, he led a series of 151 articles compromising the Great Ordinance of 1561. French scholar Joachim Chalard published his own commentary and perspective on the ordinances, notes that deal primarily with the corruption within the government. He also discusses the deplorable acts of Catholic clergy, unlawful taxation, trade regulations, the nobility, and the use of military.

This 1565 edition is considered exceptionally rare. According to Baudrier, the Clement Baudin editions were much scarcer than those published by Giochard or Rigaud.

Cornelius Nepos was a 1st-century BC Roman author whose works have mostly all been lost. However, his one surviving work is "Excellentium Imperatorum Vitae" which is a collection of biographical descriptions of Roman and foreign leaders. According to Roberts, this work details
"Roman kings, generals, lawyers, orators, poets, historians, and philosophers."

This rare 1675 printing is a rare edition by Hackiana, features an added, engraved title page, and is bound in impressive vellum.

Adriaan Houtuyn was a 17th-century Dutch lawyer known for his political treatises. One such work was his commentary on the Batavian Republic covering the kings and royal throne, jurisdiction of rulers, laws, and even the development of the democracy from ancient, Classical governments.
While the title of this work, 'Reipublicae Batavae liber primus' indicates that this is the first volume, no other volumes were published.
