Description:
London: Geoffrey Bles, 1943. First edition of Lewis' classic novel of spiritual conflict, one of his most celebrated works. Octavo, original cloth. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition. An excellent example. Very rare in this condition. The Screwtape Letters comprises thirty-one letters written by a senior demon named Screwtape to his nephew, Wormwood (named after a star in Revelation), a younger and less experienced demon, who is charged with guiding a man toward "Our Father Below" (Devil / Satan) and away from "the Enemy" (God). Versions of the letters were originally published weekly in the Anglican periodical The Guardian between May and November 1941.

Description:
New York: Macmillan, 1943. Book. Fine Minus. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 9th printing of 1st American Edition. Book is clean, unmarked, spine tight, slightly tanned endpapers, tips with minuscule rubbing and spine ends slightly worn. The dust jacket is price clipped and has loss and chipping at spine ends with about a two inch x 1/3 inch loss at front cover tip. Other small chips at points and some edges. Jacket has a smudge on the front and overall aging. Looks great now in its new shiny plastic cover. Shipping box is suitable for wrapping with a non-price listed purchase order inside along with biodegradable packing. From the jacket, "These brilliant, challenging letters from an elderly devil in hell to his junior on earth are the most vital and original restatement of religious truths produced in our time -- a profound, hard-hitting, provoking, yet truly reverent book.".

Description:
New York: The Macmillan Company, 1943. Hardcover. First Edition, First Printing of the North American Edition, published the year after Geoffrey Bles and with all requisite criteria as called for by Brown in his "In Pursuit of C.S. Lewis: Adventures in Collecting His Works." 8vo. 160pp. Publisher's dark maroon cloth. VERY GOOD in Good dust jacket protected in a removable mylar cover. The book itself shows some very light rubbing at the bottommost of the front board, endpapers and paste-downs with even, natural and light toning, former owner name neatly on the endpaper, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is clean and unmarked, and the boards are bright and colorful. The dust jacket shows some rubbing at the edges with small chips, the occasional light blemish, spine and panels somewhat toned, two closed tears at both flap hinges which present nicely underneath the archival mylar, otherwise remains bright and distinct, retaining the original price of $1.50. As pictured.

Very good, 1st edition (reprinting Jan 1945; 1st in 1942), missing d/j, black boards (some sunning), titling on spine plate a little soiled; text block firm, unmarked pages tight and crisp. Wartime papers. 12mo (190 x 130 / 7_"" x 5""). A milestone in the history of popular theology, ÔThe Screwtape LettersÕ is an iconic classic on spiritual warfare and the power of the devil. This profound and striking narrative takes the form of a series of letters from Screwtape, a devil high in the Infernal Civil Service, to his nephew Wormwood, a junior colleague engaged in his first mission on earth trying to secure the damnation of a young man who has just become a Christian. Although the young man initially looks to be a willing victim, he changes his ways and is ÔlostÕ to the young devil. Dedicated to LewisÕs friend and colleague J.R.R. Tolkien, ÔThe Screwtape LettersÕ is a timeless classic on spiritual conflict and the invisible realities which are… Read More
