The uncommon debut novel from one of the lesser known Harlem Renaissance writers, depicting black sharecroppers in rural Alabama (Henderson was born in Alabama in 1904, later moving to New York during the Great Migration. He worked as a printer for the 'New York Daily News' where nine of his stories also appeared)..
