About This Item
Printed in Florence in 1508, this edition is believed to have been based on Pontano's original manuscript which was brought to Florence in 1503 by Giovanni Corsi. Based on Aristotles, Nicomachean Ethics, and building on St. Thomas Aquinas', Summa Theologiae, this work has come in and out of fashion for centuries. The concept of Prudence espoused in this work is heavily influenced by 15th century Italy and Pontano's deep belief in loving ones family, especially your spouse and children.
Bound in early 19th century full vellum with gilt lettering inside label on spine and with inked date, mostly worn, on bottom of spine. Some markings and discoloration to covers with rubbing at edges. Edges are stained blue. There is a book mark ribbon present and attached. Old ink note on first page. Some light foxing and discoloration, mostly limited to margins. Some minor worm holes on leafs 122-124 (see picture, leaf 123 is the most impacted and even that very minimally (leafs 122-124 are pages 244-248)). An early example of italic printing; the first books to use italics were printed by Aldus Manutius in 1500 in Venice.
