A hefty tome in full brown leather with bevelled edges, decorative gilt borders and spine sections, and design in blind in the center of the front and back covers. All edges gilt, coated yellow endpapers, portrait frontispiece with tissue-guard, printed on double-column and with page borders, 100 drawings on wood and 20 drawings in chromo-lithography. The covers are a bit scuffed, the inner hinges cracked, and a handsome gift inscription dated Xmas 1866. The book is solid and internally clean. Contributors include George Cheever, James Montgomery. In Good+ Condition: rubbed; loss of 2 cm. at tail of spine; front joint cracked; shadow on title page from frontispiece; pages are browning with several small stains; otherwise, clean and solid. 4.

Early American Imprints, 2nd ser. (Shaw & Shoemaker), 14476. Former owner's name on back endpapers: Maria Sayforth. The author, Thomas Belsham (1750-1829), was an English Unitarian minister. He served the Essex Street Chapel from 1805 till his death. "These Discourses contain the substance of a Course of Lectures delivered after the morning service to the young persons who attend unitarian worship at the chapel in Essex street."--[p. iii]. Very scarce. In Fair+ Condition: leather is rubbed with loss along spine; front board is almost detached; lacking front free endpaper; finger soiling, light foxing, and browning throughout; complete.

No date, though circa mid-late 18th century. 144 leaves (288 pages) on velum leaves, bound in leather. Sinew tied. Mostly black lettering, though with some in red. One full page illustration in color of Madonna and Child. There are a few decorative breaks between sections of text. Written in Ge'ez, an ancient South Semitic language originating in Eritrea and the northern region of Ethiopia. Once the official language of Aksum and Ethiopia, it now remains primarily used in the liturgy of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and to a lesser degree by the Beta Israel Jewish Community (Wikipedi, 2017). Bottom cover is lacking, though all contents appear present. The first leaf is heavily rubbed and mostly illegible. Remaining contents show age, a little rubbing, and scattered markings, though are clear and legible.
