[Np: The Photographer, ca. 1963].. Original glossy double-weight gelatin silver print from negative, 14 x 11" (inclusive of margins). Captioned in pencil on verso. About fine. An original print of one of the sequence of superb photographs taken by Yousuf Karsh on location in South Africa during the filming of the 1964 Diamond Films production, ZULU, directed by Cy Endfield. Karsh's invitation to join the production and photograph the cast and locale resulted in a sequence of photographs of a very high order. The present image is a fine three-quarter length character portrait of Michael Caine, in his role as Lt. Gonville Bromhead - a role which was a major springboard in early years of his career. The image is identified as "No. 7-12" in the series. Although this project is not as widely known as Karsh's formal portraiture, examples of the resulting images have featured prominently in both museum and print retrospectives of his career.

Both photographs are in near fine condition with only the slightest hint of chipping along the edge of the photograph featuring the iconic Yosemite Valley, General View. The photochrom is a color photo lithograph created from a black and white photographic negative. Color impressions are achieved through the application of multiple lithograph stones, one per color. The process was developed in Switzerland and brought to the United States by the Detroit Publishing Company in 1897, which acquired exclusive ownership and rights to the process in America. Kappa Alpha Phi was a foreign service fraternity founded in 1920 at Georgetown University; it became inactive in the mid 1960s. The people in these photos knew how to have a good time and you can tell they enjoyed acting as much as they did posing for the camera. Whoever took the photos did a great job with early flash photography as most of them seem to have been taking indoors at night.
The men, women, and sometimes children in the images wear a variety of costumes, masks, face paint, and wigs. One recurring theme seems to be the "King of Hobes" [Hoboes?]. There are photos of people singing, with instruments, crossdressing, a mock wedding, of 'maids', and, as was common in this era, people wearing blackface.
The back of the album has some photos of local towns, including of a flood. All in all, there are some really incredible photos.
Since I purchased this in Pennsylvania and there is a sign in one of the photos for the Philadelphia and Ready Telegraph Co, I'm assuming the location is central PA.

Warner Brothers. No binding. Just About Fine. [Los Angeles: Warner Brothers, 1941]. Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 35 cm.) black-and-white double weight glossy silver gelatin print photo. Print is borderless, there is one stain on Bogart's shoulder at far right. Just about fine.
Humphrey Bogart toiled on screen for nearly 10 years in all kinds of supporting and second-billed roles, with an occasional lead in a B film. High Sierra's Roy "Mad Dog" Earle was the role which catapulted Humphrey Bogart to first-billed star status. The following year he was considered a romantic lead as well. He excelled in this emotionally charged character, sprung out of prison and hiding from the authorities in the Sierra mountains.
Seldom were guns allowed in publicity stills, moreso with them being pointed at the viewer; this portrait violates both counts. This oversized print came from the files of the Photoplay magazine library and is ink stamped as such three times on the verso. Photo coded HB 238.

This listing is for a breathtaking 8x10 color photo of the legendary Tom Cruise as Maverick in the film Top Gun. It is beautifully signed by Tom in bold blue marker and professionally authenticated by PSA/DNA. An ironclad COA from PSA accompanies the photo. Most Tom Cruise autogrqaphs listed on ebay and elsewhere are fake; this PSA authenticated photo is quite uncommon.
