Phillipsburg, New Jersey:: Maryann Riker,, 2009.. Edition of 8. Three 1" circular button books; 6 pages each. Accordion structure with pastedowns as pages. Each book cover an actual button. Housed in 2.875 x 2.875 x 1.75” cloth and paper covered box with attached lid. Paper title label on exterior of lid with colophon on the opposite side of the lid. Maryann Riker: "When I was young, I spent many a rainy afternoon picking through my mom and aunt’s button jar and button box. I loved the variety--each one its own special work of art. These little gems have always held my fascination. The second part of the Miniature History of the Button is a brief history on the button’s use and types. This is then my ode to their noble purpose in making our lives simpler and easier in keeping our clothes in their proper place.

Laid in paper wraparound with matching hand-stitched snake on spine. In cloth-covered slipcase. Signed and numbered by the artist. Rebecca Goodale: "The Ribbon Snake has been added to the Special Concern list in the state of Maine. Thamnophis sauritus is a smaller, more delicate snake than the garter snake."

This is a scarce, complete 6-volume "LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE" Wee Little Books set by Harold Gray with original storage box. 1934; Whitman Publishing Co.; Racine, Wisconsin. All books are illustrated and in terrific condition. All books are tightly bound with no cracks and no loose pages. All books appear unread with clean pages and no writing, stains, tears or foxing found. The slip case is clean with no stains and only a tiny tear at one corner by the opening. Overall the set is in great condition.

This is a scarce "Big Little Book" copy of "LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE" by Harold Gray. Number 708. 1933 1st edition, 2nd printing (with 1928 copyright date and 3-title ad at the back of the book); Whitman Publishing Company; Racine, Wisconsin. Illustrated throughout. This title has the distinction of being the second Big Little Book ever published. The book is a reprint of the daily comic strip that appeared in the New York Daily News newspaper from October 1, 1931 to August 31, 1932. Scarce in any condition.Condition:Soiling/staining to the front cover; the spine has a stain at the left edge; small, light stain at the top-right corner of the back cover; the left and right edges of the bottom of the spine have chipped off. The top-right corner of the front cover is worn. Tight binding with no cracks. Page 234 is present but detached, and the top edge has torn off. Illustrations originally handcolored then scanned for printing. Illustrations then "touched up" with pencils or over colored to bring out colors more defnitely. Signed and numbered by the artist. In the edition of 25, 20 slipcased and 5 "Cabinet of Curiosity" format. A fine copy of this expertly printed little volume in a highly attractive leather binding of beautiful full dark green morocco by Lanscelin. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments double ruled, lettered and fully decorated in gilt. Boards with triple gilt ruled borders. Stamped monogram to the front board. Board edges double ruled in gilt. Turn-ins with elaborate gilt roll. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Orange, gold and green silk book marker sewn in. A fine copy, housed in a marbled paper covered slip-case. The slip-case has seen some damage and has been repaired with sticky tape to the edges, but has done the job of keeping the book in fine condition. A marvellous piece of book production, both the text and the binding.

Bound in original red paper covered boards with pictorial down the front covers that are surrounded by a stamped design of holly and berries. White paper inside aged with yellowish tint. each book has numerous full-page color and some black and white illustrations throughout, the only credited illustrator John R. Neill for Peter Rabbit. Introductions by L. Frank Baum. Publisher's ads at ends. A Very Good set, lacking the original slipcase, spines are rubbed and falling apart, binding on Cinderella is gone. Interior contents are good solid some pages do have pencil writing/ marks from a child SCARCE as a complete set. The tumultuous and complicated history of "Little Black Sambo" as a book and as a pejorative term adds a painful overlay to this otherwise charming Christmas stocking stuffer. Rare compilation of the works of Jane Austen in two kid leather bound editions published 1903 by T. Nelson and Sons, London, Edinburgh and New York.
Ultra fine paper, soft leather covers with embossed spines. Books are in generally good to very good condition, one has a previous owners name on inner page. Both volumes contain the original silk bookmark but one is unsecured.
Soft leather covers have aged well with minimal wear evident at upper and lower ends of the spines. Pages have a gold finish to top edge.
A genuine collector's set.
