Tehran: Ketabha-ye Perstav., [Sh.: 1344], 1965. Soft cover. Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Paperback. Foolscap 8vo. (17 x 11,5 cm). In Persian. 200 p. Sadegh Hedayat [Sadiq - Sadigh Hidayet], (1903-1951), was an Iranian writer, translator, and intellectual. Best known for his novel The Blind Owl, he was one of the earliest Iranian writers to adopt literary modernism in their career. Hedayat subsequently devoted his whole life to studying Western literature and to learning and investigating Iranian history and folklore. The works of Rainer Maria Rilke, Edgar Allan Poe, Franz Kafka, Anton Chekhov, and Guy de Maupassant intrigued him the most. During his short literary life span, Hedayat published a substantial number of short stories and novelettes, two historical dramas, a play, a travelogue, and a collection of satirical parodies and sketches. His writings also include numerous literary criticisms, studies in Persian folklore, and many translations from Middle Persian and French.… Read More

London:: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1846., 1846. 2 volumes. 8vo. xviii, [2], 399, [1]; vii, [3], 498 pp. 19 plates (apparently lithographed and mounted); foxed. Original full tan calf, elaborate gilt-stamped spines, maroon and black leather spine labels, gilt-ruled covers, all edges marbled, by Bickers & Son, London; some minor rubbing. Bookplates of Charles Edward Keyser; inscribed from John Henry Locke to Charles Edward Keyser, on leaving Eton 1866. Near fine. First edition. The author originally wrote this biographical account while he was in Afghanistan, writing the text in both English and Persian (Farsi). He had the misfortune of being in Kabul during the November 1842 insurrection during which the town was plundered. The manuscript made it to Mohammad Akbar Khan, but there it stayed as he would not relinquish the documents. This is, therefore, an entire re-telling of that missing book. In his own words, the book is anecdotal and written about Afghanistan, the British-India policies… Read More
