1764?-1769, Oaxaca, Manuscript. 35 gatherings with approximately fourteen folded folio leaves (12 1/4"" x 10") in each gathering which are now stored in an archival protective sleeve. All hand written generally on recto and verso, but in many different hands with seals stamped or embossed to documents. Now housed in a custom designed folio enclosure (15" x 12 1/2") along with the original velum.This work details the agricultural, household and commercial operations, as well as the daily life, at the Hacienda. The manuscript includes business records, legal documents and a variety of other historical material. Originally housed in a vellum binding which has become loose, but enclosed within the custom enclosure for the document. This gives a glimpse of Oaxaca life at the end of New Spain's colonial reign in Mexico.Condition:Worming throughout, sometimes heavily. This is a very nice copy of the First Edition of a scarce detailed history of Paraguay. On the front endsheet is a handwritten inscription by the author to a friend, signed and dated by the author.

An Englishman named Juan Ignacio, who had lived in Laguna de Términos (Isla del Carmen) with other Englishmen and under no law extracted palo de tinta" to send to England - he was a pirate; but later change sides - it is noted that he had joined the fleet de Barlovento for a period of 7 years (was a military formation that consisted of 50 ships created by the Spanish Empire to protect its overseas American territories from attacks from its European enemies, as well as attacks from pirates and privateers).

George Pinckard was an English physician, known as an author, an abolitionist, and in the field of insurance. On 30 September 1794 Pinckard was admitted a licentiate of the College of Physicians of London. In October 1795 he was appointed a physician to the forces, and accompanied Sir Ralph Abercromby's expedition to the West Indies. He was on the Santo Domingo staff, and had numerous delays before starting, during which he made the acquaintance of James Lind, then in charge of Haslar Hospital. He reached Barbados in February 1796. In his Notes on the West Indies (3 vols. 1806; 2nd ed. 2 vols. 1816), Pinckard described his experiences in the West Indies and Guiana, particularly of slavery. Reparación menor en página 221 (mal numerada), pp 353 con extra margen y nota manuscrita antigua al margen. Es la historia de célebre obispo de Puebla, y sus famosas querellas con los jesuitas. Esta obra comenzó a publicarse en 1688. Solo se imprimieron 7 pliegos y la publicación fue interrumpida pues el padre Champion se pronunciaba en favor del obispo y en contra de sus hermanos en religión. En 1767 al abate Toussaint , en posesión del manuscrito original de Champion , escribió este libro modificando el estilo del antiguo manuscrito e insertando algunos documentos. Obra útil para conocer las querellas que dieron tanta celebridad a Palafox y que han impedido su canonización. Se publicaron 13 ediciones entre 1767 y 1772.

Francisco López de Gómara was a Spanish historian who worked in Seville, particularly noted for his works in which he described the early 16th century expedition undertaken by Hernán Cortés in the Spanish conquest of the New World. Although Gómara himself did not accompany Cortés, and had in fact never been to the Americas, he had firsthand access to Cortés and others of the returning conquistadores as the sources of his account. However other contemporaries, among them most notably Bernal Díaz del Castillo, criticized his work as being full of inaccuracies, and one which unjustifiably sanitized the events… Read More

First edition of this scarce travel brochure touting the advantages of U.S. tourists to bring their own cars and travel over the Carretera Central which ran the entire length of the Island from Pinar del Rio to Santiago de Cuba, over 700 miles. The highway construction launched in may, 1927, and when finished proved very popular as a means to see the island. Tourists could bring their own cars from Tampa, Miami, or Key West on a ferryboat, and travel through Cuba. No copies in Worldcat.
