Description:
1867 1st ed American NAVY Officers Illustrated Farragut Civil War Ironsides Ship

"The first biography of David Farragut!"(Nevins)

Joel T. Headley, an American historical author, was known for his biographical works on important American military leaders, such as Grant and Sherman. His major contribution, of course, is his account of the Civil War, entitled 'The Great Rebellion'; however, he extended his military focus beyond infantry and cavalry generals in his next work "Farragut and Our Naval Commanders".

This work deals exclusively with all aspects of the American Navy from generals and commanders, their ships, the types of guns used on the vessels, the wars that the Navy played roles in, as well as details of some of the earliest naval ships – The Monitor, Galena, and Ironsides. The naval officer biographies include:
·
Admiral Farragut
·
S.H. Dahlgreen
·
L.M. Goldsborough
·
S.H. Stringham
·
C.H. Davis
·
W.D. Porter

FIFES AND DRUMS 1917 little tear, some markings and wear.WIKIPEDIA PAGE SAYS These poems, written under the immediate stress of great events by those who have banded themselves together under the name of The Vigilantes, furnish a striking record of the emotional reactions of the American people during the fortnight preceding and the six weeks following the declaration of war. They are presented to the public in the belief that men and women in every corner of the Union will find reflected in them some of the love and aspiration they themselves are experiencing for their re-discovered country.

Description:
Bricks Without Straw, A Novel. By Albion W Tourgee, Author of "A Fool's Errand" etc. New York: Fords, Howard & Hulbert. 1880. Believed to be first edition. 'A classic of American political fiction first published in 1880, a mere three years after Reconstruction officially ended, Bricks Without Straw offers an inside view of the struggle to create a just society in the post-slavery South. It is unique among the white-authored literary works of its time in presenting Reconstruction through the eyes of emancipated slaves. As a leading Radical Republican, the author, Albion W. Tourgée, played a key role in drafting a democratized Constitution for North Carolina after the Civil War, and he served as a state superior court judge during Reconstruction. Tourgée worked closely with African Americans and poor whites in the struggle to transform North Carolina's racial and class politics. He saw the ravages of the Ku Klux Klan firsthand, worked to bring the perpetrators of Klan atrocities to justice, and… Read More
