They are generally without chips and marks but there is a little pushing to the top and tail of the spine. The internals are bright, clean and free from spotting. There are no traces of previous owners inscriptions and overall, this copy is in near fine condition. The runner-up for the Kate Greenaway Medal from the Library Association, recognising the year's best children's book illustration by a British writer. In the United States, it was named to the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award list in 1979.

The pictorial boards are bright, clean and beautifully illustrated by Briggs. They are tight at the spine and sharp at the corners. There is very (very!) slight handling marks throughout and the spine is very slightly faded. The internal pop-up pages are again beautifully illustrated and without any notable damage. Unfortunately, the 'musical' element of this copy is not functioning. Overall, this is a near fine copy of a nice, festive title. The Snowman was the runner-up for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal in the UK and won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in the US in 1979. It was adapted into a Bafta-winning animated short, first broadcast 26 December 1982, which remains a Christmas classic. A live stage show also remains a firm festive favourite.
