One of only 100 unnumbered hors commerce copies specially bound and signed by Henry Miller. Bound in original marbled boards over brown spine cloth, titled in gilt. Near Fine with rubbing to edges heaviest at corners, former owner rubber stamp to front paste down. The famous novel with a multiple decades-long journey through the courts in different countries. This Grove first American edition triggered a landmark obscenity case that ended in 1964 with it being officially declared "not obscene.

London: Calder, 1963-4. Both first edition, first printings published by Calder between 1963-64. Both volumes are very good+ (Capricorn with moderate foxing to the prelims and edges). Both signed on the ffep by the Author and dated and located (London 1969). A bright pair and exceptionally rare to find Miller's masterpiece signed, especially in first edition form.

Publisher's grey cloth with gilt titles to spine. With the blue dust-jacket, priced at 25s. Large blue ink ownership to fly-leaf. Toning and spotting to edges and endpapers. Boards slightly bowed, with some toning to spine and wear to edges. Jacket heavily worn to edges, with creases, closed tears, and heavy chipping. Good. A classic account of an American writer's life in Paris, first published there in 1934, but not officially published in the US and the UK until 1961 and 1963 due to censorship.
