States "FIRST EDITION" on the copyright page, opposite the title. This is the Junior Literary Guild edition and so designated on the title page and also to the lower, front jacket flap. The upper fore corners and the spine ends are bumped. A former owner name to the upper, front free endpaper. It is otherwise unmarked and tight. The dust jacket has a number of small edge tears. There is a 1 1/4" tear to the lower, rear. To the verso there is clear tape used in repair to most of the tears. Chips to the spine ends and corners. Original price of $2.50 to the front flap. Caldecott Award Winner but with no sticker to the jacket. ; Oblong 8vo 8" to 9" tall .
