Description:
First UK Hardcover Edition (True First); A Near Fine book in a Very Good or better dust jacket. An outstanding copy of the first hardcover appearance of Travis McGee, the first UK being published 10 years before the US edition. This copy is in Near Fine condition with only some slight rubbing to the spine ends and faint soiling to the text block, else fine; housed in a clean and bright very good or better dust jacket that shows some moderate rubbing and creasing at the spine ends, edges, and corners, one small closed tear at the spine foot, and some light soiling to the back panel. Overall, a highly presentable and collectible copy of an uncommon title. Not remaindered, not price clipped, not ex-library; in a protective Mylar sleeve and will ship carefully wrapped in a sturdy box.

Description:
London: Pan Books, 1968. [Thriller] FIRST PAPERBACK EDITION. Octavo (18 x 11cm), pp.172; [4], ads. Publisher's sofcovers priced at 3/6. Expected toning else a crisp, fine copy of the first Travis McGee novel, a particularly elusive title; the British hardback and paperback first printings are inexplicably scarce. John D. MacDonald is best remembered for his 'enforcer' character Travis McGee, and his 1957 novel The Executioners, which was filmed as Cape Fear. The UK paperback features a supporting quote from James Bond author Ian Fleming, which did not appear on any other printing. This copy is from the comprehensive archive assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencil signature within). His comprehensive guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Gilbert D30.
