*** NICE ASSOCIATION COPY *** DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP, Doubleday, 1968, first edition, tiny hole from fastener to the upper margin of the first 3 leaves, else just about fine in vg+/near fine dust-wrapper with some slight wear. Publishers complimentary card laid in with the signature of the Doubleday science fiction editor of this very title, as well as virtually all of the Doubleday science fiction titles during this period, Larry Ashmead. Formerly, the copy of esteemed fellow science fiction writer and critic Brian Aldiss with his ownership signature on the f.e.p. Nice association thus. Description:
Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, Inc, 1968. First Edition. Arguably Dick's best-known and most widely-read work, a novel set in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco, where Earth's life has been damaged by nuclear war and where most animal species are endangered or extinct. "In a future where technological sophistication has made the ersatz virtually indistinguishable from the real the hero is a bounty hunter who must track down and eliminate androids passing for human. But android animals are routinely passed off as real by people trying to purge human guilt for having exterminated so many living species, and the new messiah is an artificial construct; so where is the difference between the human and the androidal?" (Barron, Anatomy of Wonder 4-173). Levack 12a. First Printing. Octavo (21.5cm); light grey cloth, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; [vi],[3],4-210pp. Base of spine gently nudged, a faint, tiny rubbed spot to lower front cover, with subtle offsetting along the hinges, and… Read More

Description:
London: Rapp and Whiting, 1968. A first edition, first printing published by Rapp and Whiting in 1968. A very good book with spotting to the endpapers and to the page edges. Small amount of residue to the spine. With the scarce Lawrence Edwards-designed dust wrapper without any of the heavy fading to the spine. Edges lightly rubbed and a little nicked in places. Filmed notably in 1982, with Ridley Scott as director and Harrison Ford as the lead character, Rick Deckard. Both the novel and the film explore themes such as what it means to be human, the nature of consciousness, and the ethics of creating and controlling intelligent beings. However, the plot and characters differ significantly between the two, with the film focusing more on action and visual spectacle, and the novel delving deeper into the psychological and emotional aspects of the story.
