And there's more. It's signed by Buck, in ink, on the half title. And it's a complete copy with the publisher's tipped in, fold out flyer announcing Book Club selection. Octavo, original brown cloth, illustrated endpapers. Presentation copy, inscribed and dated by Pearl Buck on the half-title page. Buck also underlined the error "flees" on page 100, and marked it with an arrow on the left margin. It is interesting to note that Buck knew the first issue points and makes note of it. Near fine in the original dust jacket with some tape repairs to the verso. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box made by the Harcourt Bindery. Signed and inscribed examples of the first edition in the original dust jacket are rare. 1ST EDITION, 1ST STATE(John Day Publishing Company) and all 1st issue points. Top stain, flees, John Day last page, if there are any others I bet it is in here. The glassine Dustjacket came with it(Wraps as stated by Ahearn & Blanck). Unmarked, unread, clean, square. Check the photos. The rear spine cloth may seem slightly loose(appearance), that is it that I can see but listed as Near Fine?ADDED to this collection is the remaining books of the Trilogy(the Sons and A House Divided both are Great Copies themselves-search my books for the photos of them also) and the 4th book of the Saga(The Mother). I have been collecting Mrs Buck's books for over 40 years and they are hard to keep in stock.The TLS came from a 5th grade school teacher back in the 90's just waiting for the right book to come along. This First Trade Edition is ex-Library from the Pleasant Valley Free Library, Pleasant Valley NY.  Pearl Buck had many family connections with Pleasant Valley and this copy is inscribed to "For Mildred and Clifford from Pearl S. Buck." Clifford Buck was Pearl's nephew and closely connected to the Pleasant Valley Library.  Although this copy was partly rebound by the library, the front and bacj covers, though frayed, are still intact along with the red endpapers showing marching Chinese peasants.
