Description:
San Francisco: Inferno Press, 1957. Book. Fine. Original Wraps. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. First printing. Extremely rare. The poem, "Return of the Rivers" is printed on a single sheet of white paper folded in half to make two pages. It is housed in a black paper cover with very light edge fading folded in half with a paper label signed "Richard Brautigan". A small circle of glue used to attach the poem sheet to the cover has bled through to both sheets. "The Return of the Rivers" is by far the rarest of all Brautigan items and possibly the rarest item in modern literature. OCLC lists only two copies held at the University of Virginia and UC Berkeley. Housed in a beautiful folding box with marbled boards, black morocco spine and cover label stamped in gilt. Book is protected in a custom cut clear mylar cover. All books are carefully wrapped and shipped in a box..

Description:
San Francisco: Four Seasons Foundation, 1967. First Edition. Near Fine. First edition, first printing, issued as "Writing 14" and preceding later editions published by Delta. Signed by Richard Brautigan on the first blank page. Bound in publisher's printed wraps. Near Fine with light shelf wear, light soiling to bottom textblock edge near spine. A fantastic copy of a fragile book prone to splitting--this copy shows just the faintest issue with the glue to the preliminary pages. The author's scarce breakthrough novel, and the work he is best-known for. Uncommon as a first edition, and even more so signed.

Description:
Santa Barbara :: Capra Press,, 1989.. First Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine copy in a Very Good plus unclipped dust jacket with light sunning to the spine. For 18 years, Keith Abbott was one of Brautigan's closest friends especially early on in Brautigan's writing career. Abbott paints a portrait of Richard Brautigan as a lovable and whimsical friend. Abbott explains the writer's dedication to the art of fiction and his quest to break beyond the pop culture, hippie label that haunted him until his suicide in1984. Brautigan's tight prose inspired authors such as Haruki Murakami, and his experimentation with the line won him accolades from authors like Ishmael Reed, Raymond Carver, and Michael McClure. His work is highly influential and Abbott draws a clear connection between Brautigan's life and his writing. This book is essential for anyone who is interested in the work of Richard Brautigan. As Raymond Carver wrote, "Truly the best thing I've ever seen written of the man."

San Francisco: Four Seasons Foundation, 1967. First Edition. Stiff Wrappers. Fine/Fine. Third Printing of Brautigan's "most radical work . . . a re-imagining of the American novel." (Literary Encyclopedia) Crown 8vo (203 x 137mm): [10],112pp. Publisher's pictorial card covers, spine lettered in black, back cover priced $1.95. A superb survival, virtually pristine and apparently unread. Barber 79. Lepper, p. 82. Brautigan's first novel, although A Confederate General from Big Sur was published first, and one of the first examples of postmodern literature. "Trout Fishing goes beyond metafiction. Parody of literary characteristics can be found, but the basic conventions are simply ignored. There is no plot, no theme, no continuity of character and no stable sense of time or place. . . . Like some Cubist collages, the text is composed of references to a perceived world beyond itself but, as a whole, it can only be understood as a self-contained addition to that world rather than as an attempt to…
