Description:
New York: Ballantine Books, 1953. First Edition. Asbestos Binding. Fine/Fine. First edition in perhaps the nicest example of this dust jacket extant in the world today; a rarity that practically glows. Number 25 of 200 copies with limited issue asbestos binding, hand numbered and signed by Ray Bradbury on the colophon. Approximately 50 copies of which were sold in trade dust jackets though not called for, and this is one of those copies. [viii], 199, (3) pp. Johns-Manville Quinterra asbestos binding, lettered in red. Fine, with light ambient toning to the boards, light offsetting to the front free endpaper and contents lightly tanned. In a Fine dust jacket, with absolutely no fading (we have never seen one without fading); two micro-tears to the edge, a minuscule crease to the top corner of the rear panel and trivial rubbing at the folds. The classic dystopian, anti-censorship novel, plus two short stories "The Playground" and "The Rock Cried Out." A sought-after signed limited edition with the dust…

New York: Ballantine Books, [1953]. First edition. Some rubs to lower board edges and corner tips, a fine copy in a nearly fine dust jacket with mild wear at spine ends with a little stress creasing at the head of the spine panel, tiny sliver chip at base of spine panel, a little darkening of the spine panel, the orange lettering of the "451" very slightly faded, much, much less than usually observed. A superior copy. (29050). Octavo, red boards, front and spine panels stamped in yellow. The hardbound trade issue. (Currey binding D [no priority]). A short novel expanded from the novella "The Fireman" published in 1951. "While the jet bombers boom overhead and another nuclear war threatens, Americans live a mindless life in a society where everyone is encouraged to lose himself in such distractions as four-wall television, hearing-aid radios, high-speed travel, and group sports. Life is reduced to the paste-pudding norm of a mass audience, for it serves the purpose of the government to keep people…

Description:
New York: Ballantine Books, Inc.,, 1953. The temperature at which book-paper catches fire, and burns First hardback edition, first printing, of the author's best-known work. Though preceded by a softcover edition, the hardback is more desirable. This is the trade issue, in Currey's D binding (no priority); there was also a signed limited issue of 200 copies bound in asbestos. Published at the height of the Cold War, Fahrenheit 451 is a classic in the dystopian canon, widely cited by defenders of freedom of thought, speech, and print. It includes Bradbury's short stories "The Playground" and "And the Rock Cried Out" which were omitted in later printings as the titular story grew in popularity. Octavo. Original red textured cloth (Currey's D binding), spine and front cover lettered in yellow. With dust jacket. Illustrations by Joe Mugnaini. Christmas 1953 ink ownership inscription on front free endpaper; ticket of bookseller Paul Elders of San Francisco on rear pastedown. Spine ends and edges rubbed,…

Description:
New York: The Limited Editions Club, 1982. Hardcover. Near Fine. Joseph Mugnaini. One of the scarcest of all copies within the limitation of the 2,000 copies signed by both Ray Bradbury and the illustrator Joe Mugnaini. This is a "lettered" copy (letter 'G') and, just below the signatures at the limitation, states in blindstamp: "ONE OF 26 PRESENTATION COPIES, OUT OF SERIES". One can certainly assume that almost all of these Presentation copies were given to close friends and family of Bradbury, Mugnaini and the publisher, and that very few of these "lettered" copies reached the market. This is a very sharp copy to boot. Clean and easily Near Fine in its aluminum boards, with both the cautionary slip ("Fragile: This Book Is Bound in Aluminum -- Sensitive to the touch") and the Monthly Letter of the Limited Editions Club laid-in. Quarto, nicely illustrated thuout by Mugnaini. Also includes a handsome, very sturdy example of the matching aluminum slipcase, with just a touch of very faint rubbing at…
